Education Forum and Technology Exhibition
October 6-7, 2011, Jackson, CA

Last Fall, COWA held it’s first Education Forum & Technology Exhibition in 3 Conference Photoyears.
It was a winner with 30 technology exhibitor partners showing their wares to over 140 attendees. Our program host, the Jackson Rancheria Casino & Hotel took great care of us providing the finest of food and service in their recently remodeled conference facility. Combining the Technology Exhibition with two other programs, the EPA funded Regulators Forum and the NAWT Waste Treatment workshop enabled COWA to keep expenses to a minimum and provide a very cost effective event for all.

A contract with Region 9 EPA enable COWA to deliver two pilot runs of our new Community Outreach Program, one at the Jackson event and another in Malibu on November 15. This program was designed to introduce both regulators and practitioners alike to valuable tools for educating all sectors involved in the onsite industry including  regulators, onsite practitioners, outside business interests and system owners. We look forward to fine tuning this program and delivering it statewide to assist local agencies meet the public education requirements of the new California Onsite Wastewater Regulations. COWA was pleased to work with NAWT to design and deliver the first state focused Waste Treatment Workshop. Based on the model of the NAWT National Waste Treatment Symposium, a 8 hour classroom training on the processes and opportunities in private septage and brown grease treatment, reuse and disposal was enhanced by a tour and demonstration of the state of the art Sierra Septic Waste Treatment Facility. Dean Trevaskis, business partner Steve Phillips and Plant Manager Bob Hess opened their doors, help deliver education and made us feel at home with afternoon  cookies and soft drinks, (a special thanks to Sandi Trevaskis and Mary Hess). Moreover, their openness and willingness to share their experience was noted by all as way above the call of duty.

Private waste treatment is a growing concern nationwide, but is just emerging in California with tons of opportunity for both the Liquid Waste Haulers looking to maximize their profit potential and for technology manufacturers and suppliers providing products and services. COWA will keep their eyes on this one as it too offers job creation in our industry.
